This test offers valuable insight into:

  • Digestive function (Digestion, absorption, and enzyme markers)
  • Intestinal inflammation or immune activation
  • Intestinal microbiome

**We utilize the GI Effects panel when we suspect a GI infection or gut dysbiosis.**

**We recommend starting with the MicrobeLink DX to identify bacteria at cause GI infections or gut dysbiosis.**

Genova Diagnostics utilizes polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology (genetic sequencing) to analyze each sample for parasitic DNA as well as uses PCR to analyze each patient’s unique microbiome. With PCR technology, we are able to get a real-time quantification of all of the organisms in your stool.

GI Effects is a comprehensive assessment of complete GI health; able to assess the root cause of most gut complaints, such as gas, bloating, indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. These biomarkers provide valuable insight into the development of strategic interventions, aimed at correcting functional imbalances and inadequacies through targeted dietary, lifestyle, and pharmaceutical-grade supplementation therapies.

The GI Effects also uses biomarkers which help us differentiate between conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

1-day vs. 3-day Collection

Since the sale of Metametrix to Genova only DRG and Diagnostic Solutions provide PCR analysis for parasites. However, the results are limited to less than seven species. Metametrix provided results for over twenty species of Helminths and Protozoa. When comparing the results from the Metametrix parasitology to the current labs offered, very seldom do the labs report parasites. Numerous Doctors have had patients put parasites into the stool sample container with no results being reported by the Dig and Look methodology (AKA Optimized Parasite Recovery (OPR)) and microscopy.

Thus the need for the 3-day collection. It increases the odds of finding an intact parasite.

There is confusion about the difference in the OPR and PCR results. Why do the results do not match. The answer is simple. Parasites are fragile, degrading rapidly after collection. The DNA is present for PCR analysis but undiscoverable for the OPR (Dig and Look) methodology. Besides that, what lab tech is so into their job that they will make the extra effort to did through a stool sample.

1 review for GI Effects Comprehensive Profile 2200

  1. Dr. Michael G.

Sometimes you meet people who have an immediate, profound positive impact on you. It just happened to and I want to share. I just spent an hour on a webex with Dr. Peterson going over a patient’s GIFX panel. Never have I met someone with not only the breadth of knowledge he has when it comes to GI function and dysfunction, but the gift of being able to explain the enormity of a test like this is such detail within an hour. We are blessed to have him as a colleague. If you ever have an issue with GI function testing, you will be blown away by having a consultation with this amazing doctor. Dr. M.G.
